Awesome holiday bushcraft fun!

Schools out… and that means the adventure is ready to begin!

 

Children’s holidays are about discovery and new adventures. Being given the chance to be creative and to try lots of new activities, children will naturally become more confident and develop great new skills and knowledge.

 

For those at the beginning of their bushcraft journey, our TRIBE Discovery Days are the perfect choice. The children will explore the most fundamental aspects of bushcraft combined with fun, educational games, problem solving challenges and songs. Each of the Discovery Days covers a different selection of activities, so for a comprehensive experience across the holidays why not book your child onto all 5 Discovery Days.

 

IMPORTANT: Registration for this Bushcraft Day Camp close ‘7 days’ before the start of the event and for each event to run, a minimum of 6 participants are required.

There are a total of 5 awesome Discovery Days to choose from. Each one has a different bushcraft theme and each with a different plant name and stamp. Check them out below.

 
Discovery Day : BIRCH
– Fire Lighting | Campfire Cooking | Scavenger Hunt –
  • FIRE LIGHTING – Learn to build The Perfect Fire and light it using a ferrorod; complete the Fire Ladder Challenge and celebrate with toasted marshmallows.
  • CAMPFIRE COOKING – You’ve learned how to light a fire, now you can cook on one. You’ll learn the best part of a fire to cook on whilst making some tasty bread twists and/or chocolatey bananas.
  • SCAVENGER HUNT – Explore the woodland, following clues and riddles in search of items useful to any aspiring bushcrafter.

Discovery Day : HAZEL
– Woodworking | Shelter Building | Cordage Survival Bracelets –
  • WOODWORKING – Learn to safely use a bushcraft knife as you carve a functional tent peg to use later on.
  • SHELTER BUILDING – Build a watertight shelter using tarps, paracord and a tent peg you have made yourself. Get to know a few useful knots that make this quick and easy.
  • CORDAGE SURVIVAL BRACELETS – Make strong cordage using techniques that can be applied to many different natural materials. Fashion this into your own special bracelet.

Discovery Day : HOLLY
– Water Carry Challenge | Water Filters | Bridge Building –
  • WATER CARRY CHALLENGE – Sometimes when you need water, it’s not where you need it. With guidance, experiment to find different ways of transporting water to where it’s needed using only nature.
  • WATER FILTERS – Following the WATER theme, use gathered materials from your surroundings to construct an effective water filter capable of clearing the debris from the natural water source you have found.
  • BRIDGE BUILDING – Spend the afternoon building bridges over the woodland’s streams. Try out different designs and test out against other teams.

Discovery Day : PINE
– TRIBE Village | Traps | Foraging & Tracking –
  • TRIBE VILLAGE – Add your own elements to the TRIBE Village, a sturdy model village built using natural materials. Build a shelter/ house, weave fences, lay paths, or decorate the village… let your creativity run wild.
  • TRAPS – Learn how to make a trap (and for those unsure, no animals will be involved), the importance of being responsible with them, and see if you can set them on your own.
  • FORAGING & TRACKING – Explore the woodland searching for food and animal tracks and most importantly learn how to forage safely.

Discovery Day : WILLOW
– Woodworking | Willow Dreamcatcher | Nature Walk –
  • WOODWORKING – Carve a ‘Try-Stick’, the perfect project to try out lots of different techniques.
  • WILLOW DREAMCATCHER – Weave a sturdy ring from willow, web it with natural cord, and decorate. A perfect fireside craft developing a selection of skills.
  • NATURE WALK – Take a multi-sensory walk around the woodland, learning about the different plants, trees, animal and fungi. Take notice of the natural world and appreciate it’s beauty and also usefulness.

 

What to bring

TRIBE provides all the equipment required on each Bushcraft Day Camp, however additional equipment can also be bought from TRIBE should you wish to do so, please contact one of the event organisers (scroll down) to find out more.

 

The following kit list is required for each Discovery Day

  • Outdoor footwear – we recommend walking boots (no open shoes such as sandals or crocs)
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Outdoor trousers (no jeans)
  • A packed lunch
  • Water or other cold drink
Optional
  • Gardening gloves
  • A hot drink
  • Insect repellent (usually summer and autumn periods only)
  • Mobile phone

**Please note: If you wish for your child to bring a mobile phone, this will need to be kept in their rucksack whilst the sessions are ongoing due to safety reasons and the overall woodland experience. Please contact the event organiser (scroll down) for more information.

 

Additional Information

Spending time in the woods is made even more enjoyable at TRIBE by our bright & airy on-site compost toilets, foot-operated hand washing facilities, and covered Main Camp area with seats and pads for everyone.

 

Discovery Days run from 09:00 – 15:30 and are child-only, giving you a few hours of golden time to catch up with life or just relax. If you feel that your child would not be able to attend unaccompanied, it may be worth considering attending one of our weekly Social Saturdays – Family Bushcraft events which run each Saturday from 10:00 – 12:00 alternatively, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
