Immerse yourself in nature


Join other families on an incredible journey into the realm of bushcraft, where you will delve into many great activities including creating your own open air wilderness shelter to sleep in, forage for food, learn vital skills such as using a bushcraft knife and making fires using traditional and modern methods.

Under the guidance of our experienced bushcraft instructors, each family will learn some incredible new skills together. You will also have time to enjoy the woodland and get to know other like-minded families. All of the catering is covered with tasty wholesome food, snacks and a good supply of hot and cold drinks.

Whether you are a newcomer to bushcraft or have honed your skills over time, our experienced instructors offer a wealth of knowledge for you to absorb. This immersive camp will not only foster a deeper connection to nature but also provide a profound understanding of our place within it. Embrace the opportunity to ask questions freely, and above all, savour every moment of this enriching experience in the great outdoors.

Weather Information

TRIBE makes its weather decisions on the recommendations of the Met Office’s (MO) weather warnings.

With a MO ‘yellow warning’, we will assess the TRIBE bushcraft centre to check it is safe to run. With a MO ‘amber warning’ or ‘red warning’ for the area, we will need to postpone or cancel the course for the day(s) the warning is in place for the safety of everyone involved. If cancelling we will provide a partial or full refund depending on what has been cancelled.

As weather warnings can be announced late, we can only apologise in advance for any changes but ultimately the safety of everyone who comes or works at TRIBE is our number one priority.

DAY 1

Shelters • Fires • Tension Tray

  • 11:40 • Walk to TRIBE Bushcraft Centre arriving for 12pm

  • – Introduction to TRIBE
    – Packed lunch*

  • 12:30 • Shelter Building

  • – Learn several useful bushcraft knots
    – Carve a tent peg
    – Set up a waterproof shelter for sleeping under
    – Set up sleeping area

  • 15:00 • Fire Lighting (pt1 Beginner)

  • – Learn how to use a Ferrorod to make fire
    – Learn how to make ‘The Perfect Fire’, which is effective in all conditions
    – Start the Main-Camp campfire

  • 17:00 • Make a Tension Tray

  • – Use natural materials to make a bushcraft plate

  • 18:00 • Dinner

  • – Pasta Bolognese

  • 19:00 • Evening Entertainment

  • – Join in with games, music and stories. If you have your own musical instrument we encourage you to bring one with you if you wish

  • 20:30 • Handover

  • – TRIBE staff depart for the evening and will be back on Day 2. One TRIBE instructor will remain at camp ‘on-call’

Nature ID • Foraging • Whittling • Fires • Nature Art • Traps

  • 09:30 • Breakfast

  • – Cooked Breakfast Bap

  • 10:00 • Nature Identification & Foraging

  • – Learn how to identify useful plants, trees and fungi of our native woodlands
    – Forage for ingredients to go with lunch

  • 12:00 • Lunch

  • – Homemade Cream of Tomato Soup and bread

  • 12:45 • Whittling

  • – The Try Stick – learn different knife cutting techniques on a single stick
    – Feather Stick – test your patience and accuracy by carving feather-sticks used for fire lighting

  • 14:15 • Fire Lighting (pt2 Advanced)

  • – Learn alternative fire lighting methods including ‘Bow-drill’, ‘Flint & Steel’, and ‘Fire roll’

  • 16:15 • Nature Art

  • – Time for some creativity… use items in nature to create a woodland masterpiece

  • 17:45 • Trap Making**

  • – Learn how to make a ‘Figure 4’ trap from natural materials

  • 18:30 • Dinner

  • – Fajitas

  • 19:00 • Evening Entertainment

  • – Join in with games, music and stories. If you have your own musical instrument we encourage you to bring one with you if you wish

  • 20:30 • Handover

  • – TRIBE staff depart for the evening and will be back on Day 3. One TRIBE instructor will remain at camp ‘on-call’

  • – Pancakes, fruit and yoghurt

  • 10:00 • Shelter Building

  • – Learn how to hank cordage
    – Learn how to tie the ‘Canadian Jam Knot’
    – Leave No Trace (LNT)

  • 10:45 • Water Purification

  • – Learn how to acquire water from nature and process it to make it safe to drink

  • 12:30 • Lunch

  • – Sandwiches

  • 13:00 • Depart

  • – Depart from the TRIBE Bushcraft Centre

Overview of the course


The TRIBE FLAME family bushcraft course has been designed to immerse families in the wilderness living skills known as bushcraft. The course is 3 Days and 2 Nights, giving everyone a great opportunity to learn how to live sustainably in nature. The TRIBE FLAME course covers a wide range of bushcraft topics and so you and your family will have a comprehensive experience of what it means to live in the outdoors.

What should I bring?


TRIBE provides all the tools required to take part in the ‘TRIBE Flame’ course. Some equipment can be bought from TRIBE should you wish to do so. Please contact one of the event organisers (see below) to find out more.


The following kit list is required for this course:


Essential

  • Bottle of water*

  • Cup

  • Head torch

  • Mobile phone (+charging block)

  • Packed lunch

  • Plate, bowl & cutlery

  • Roll mat

  • Sleeping bag (at least 3-season)

Personal Care

  • Glasses/contact lenses, mirror & case

  • Hat

  • Insect repellant

  • Medication

  • Outdoor footwear – we recommend walking boots (no open shoes such as sandals or crocs)

  • Small First Aid Kit

  • Spare clothes

  • Suitable outdoor clothes

  • Thermals

  • Toothbrush & toothpaste

  • Waterproof jacket

Optional

  • Bushcraft tools including a bushcraft knife if you own one (please check with the TRIBE instructor before using these on this course)

  • Evening hot drink sachets

  • Gardening gloves

  • Insect repellent (summer/autumn)

  • Marshmallows

Our TRIBE Bushcraft Centre is in the heart of Holmesfield Park Wood. We have a cosy main camp area with a fire area, seating, refreshments, compost toilets, a place for bags/coats and registered first aiders so that we can to make your experience with us very memorable and enjoyable.

At TRIBE you will have the incredible opportunity to create great memories with other like minded families by collaborating on joint projects and spending quality time in the great outdoors. Learn fantastic bushcraft, which you can use whenever camping, in a woodland or even at home in your garden.
